Inspired by fresh new beginnings, the month of January for us is all about tapping into our creative side and planning exciting adventures for the year ahead. Capturing our attention with her uplifting and enchanting blog is Heather, who pens the online journal Growing Space. Sharing her love of family life, interiors and all things crafty, we simply had to crown Heather our blogger crush for the month of January!
Taking us on a journey of motherhood and creativity, Growing Space is so much more than our regular lifestyle reads. An online daily journal that preserves a snapshot in time, especially where Heather’s adorable (and wonderfully cheeky) five year old twins Alfie and Esme are concerned! Capturing her life through the lens, she documents her time spent as both a mum and a stylist. Not only sharing her fun tales of motherhood, ideas for crafting and activities for children, but also her daily perspective on the world.
Without further ado, we called upon Heather to sit down and share her story and inspirations behind the blog…
How did Growing Spaces come about?
I had started a blog in 2009 shortly after my twins were born to record those early years as a family. But my passion has always been homes and interiors (I worked for a leading interiors magazine before going freelance after my maternity leave). When we moved from south London to Berkshire in 2011, I thought it would be the perfect time to launch an interiors blog to chart our journey turning a 1970s box into a family home, and so Growing Spaces was born.
What do you enjoy most about blogging?
I love that Growing Spaces gives me an opportunity to be creative. I look at our home and the world with new eyes when I’m looking for an idea for a blog post – making time for blogging is my creative outlet in my stupidly busy life juggling family and work. And I’m constantly wowed by the sense of community and the inspiration and support that you can find from other bloggers.
Growing Spaces covers so much ground (excuse the pun), tell us – what inspires you?
I love the glimpses into other people’s homes that you get on blogs and Instagram. The ideas they offer are endless and it’s so fantastic seeing people’s personalities expressed through their interior style. They make me inspired to be more creative and daring with the way I decorate my own home.
Please share with us your top three book-marked blogs…
– I’m a big fan of Lapinblu because Sarah-Lou’s fresh colour palette is very calming and her blog always looks absolutely stunning.
– Apartment Apothecary is full of great ideas and savvy advice, plus I love her Styling the Seasons series (a collaboration with Charlotte at Lotts and lots).
– From overseas, I always stop by The Red Thread because her craft ideas are so original and creative.
What are your most coveted pieces from Laura Ashley?
Richmond Wall Clock / Aviary Garden Apple Green Wallpaper / Large Noah Curved Lamp / Camden Console Table
With its simple, clean lines, the Noah Curved Floor Lamp -would look great in any setting. Likewise the Camden console table is wonderfully designed to give the illusion of space so the table won’t impose too much on the room. I would also have to choose the Richmond clock – because I think every room should have a good-looking wall clock!
Thank you to Heather for revealing her blogging story, don’t forget to book mark her blog Growing Spaces. Make sure you stay tuned on the Laura Ashley blog for more of Heather’s inspiring creations, you’re certainly in for a treat!
