When people think of Christmas they often think traditional and go for decorations in their home that they bring out year after year and that look like everyone else’s. The wonderfully talented Pamela from Life With Munchers decided to go against tradition this year and we’re glad she did as she has crafted this gorgeous alternative Christmas Tree that has left us questioning if we even need to have a big fir tree this year. See how she crafted this Christmas miracle…
I’m a big fan of alternative Christmas Trees and this year we decided to make one and I’m going to show you how easy it is to make your own stick Christmas tree.
This super stylish and space saving Christmas tree alternative would look great in any home and we decorated ours to be in keeping with our industrial chic decor.
First of all you are going to need some decorations. We selected some silver and fur decorations from Laura Ashley, as I thought they’d work really well in our house. You can find out more about what we picked below.
Preparation
You’ll need to go our foraging for some sticks. Thankfully we have an abundance of trees in our garden.
If you already know where your stick Christmas tree is going, then measure the space and work out the length of the longest stick you’ll need. You can use lots of sticks, or just a few. The tree we made was only 8 sticks.
You’ll also need some hard wearing string. You can choose any colour you like, in keeping with your decoration theme.
Step 1
Once you know where you are hanging your stick Christmas tree, work out the width you want your tree base to be and make this the length of your longest stick. Gradually trim the remaining sticks to size, to ensure you have a perfect tree shape.
Step 2
Lay out your sticks in order of size.
Step 3
Starting at the base of the tree, wrap the string around the stick and secure in place with a double knot. Continue this step as you work your way up one side of the tree, making sure you leave enough of a gap to suit the height of where you are going to hang your tree. Repeat the same on the other side and make sure your gaps are even on both sides.
Step 4
Secure your tree to the wall and begin decorating with whatever you like!
It’s that simple and super easy to store again for the following year. It’s also a nice idea for a wall or fence in your garden.
