It’s time to take a look at another one of our fabulous Laura Ashley Design Service transformations and this time it is with our lovely Interior Designer, Philippa.
When I first arrived at Mrs Keens home, I was greeted by a large, impressive three-storey Victorian house set along a leafy Surrey street. After looking around and realising the extent of the project, we discussed what was required.
“Laura Ashley design consultant Philippa was able to provide designs that fulfilled my overall design vision.”
The brief was to create a stylish look that linked the grand Victorian architecture with a more contemporary and practical family living environment. The house really was a blank canvas and Mrs Keen had clearly done a huge amount of the restoration. The property had been converted from offices into a family home.
We decided to keep downstairs fairly neutral, with greys and creams so the rooms flowed. I didn’t want anything to take away from the beautiful features that had been so lovingly restored.
The high ceilings and natural light made it very easy when dressing the windows. The full-length curtains really add to this, which gives the windows a very theatrical look, while being interlined, it gives them a fuller luxurious look and keeps out any draughts.
“Phillippa came up with ideas that drew attention and accentuated the beautiful high ceilings, windows and natural curves of the house that had been painfully restored.”
I carried the light and airy feeling through to the Kitchen, adding pattern with the roman blind, softening the look of the room.
The master bedroom was our main focus upstairs, creating a hideaway and a beautiful space in which to easily relax. The duck egg blue colour runs throughout the room. Using the delicate Josette pattern in the curtains, we then picked up in the bedding and cushions.
The Houghton deep button bedframe is the real stand out piece of the room; in the Villandry duck egg fabric. The shading of the velvet always works so well with the deep buttoning. We then matched this with the Hudson sofa, which sat perfectly in front of the bay window.
The dark wood of the classic Broughton furniture range then added practical storage, with the deep draws, and a warm contrast to the lighter duck egg shades.
“The service way exceeded my expectations. Everything provided by Laura Ashley was of an exceptional quality. It was very reasonably priced and has stood the test of 3 small children. They provided an absolutely first class design service.”
With some help from our lovely designers, your house could look as fabulous as Mrs Keens. What an amazing job Philipa has done.
