Discover our wonderful December Blogger Crush... read more
We’re got such a wonderful blogger in store for you today as our December blogger crush. Introducing: the magnificent Brick, Dust and Glitter. A family blog storytelling the lives of Emily, Rob, Raphael and Giulietta, it consists of adventures and home comforts. Reading this blog is like being welcomed into their home – you will undoubtedly love it, too!
We absolutely adored the Travelling Nativity post – how adorable that Raphael and Giulietta’s school organise to have their Nativity crib travel to everyone’s home for the night. Carrying on with the Christmas theme, we read so many great ideas in the Advent Ideas for the home post, which includes our very own Laura Ashley Advent Candle Set (available in store).
You may recognise Emily and the adorable Etta as they were featured on the Laura Ashley blog earlier this week, showing us how to wrap like a pro. You can see their blog post here. Now let’s hear more about the Brick, Dust and Glitter blog…
How did your blog Brick Dust and Glitter come about?
I actually started my blog because my husband and I felt very strongly about trying to show positive family life. I started looking around for blogs on similar themes and I realised that there were some amazing bloggers who were sharing their journeys of parenthood or fashion and I felt we had something to offer. When we first started, it wasn’t long after we had completed a renovation on our little house and we were always looking at ways of making our own things, so that gave us an immediate outlet to share. As time has moved on and our life has changed, we have settled into a routine of talking about fashion, lifestyle, home, crafts and family. I love how it has developed over time; it will keep changing as the children grow and as I learn and develop my passion for styling.
What do you enjoy most about blogging?
I love the opportunities it brings, not just via working with brands but the moments that I am able to capture and store forever of my family. When I look at our first profile picture little Etta is a baby, only 8 months old, and happy to sit still for photos. Now she is a bubbly 2 year old, and very quick on her feet! It is amazing being able to chart the change and growth of us all!
What inspires you to write?
I suppose seeing new trends and styles always gets my mind ticking over. I love planning and spend so much time daydreaming about new ideas and how I want to style things. That always comes first, creating something or setting a scene, then the writing follows. I would say writing isn’t my strong point but I love creating, and both really compliment each other and work well on the blog.
Please share with us your top three bookmarked blogs…
Life At The Little Wood is up there as a favourite. I truly enjoy following along with Emma’s life. I find we can be quite similar; she also has a great eye for classic styles that really makes her home beautiful.
Little Maldod. Lowri is truly inspiring, not only in her style in sharing her life but also she has a little shop which sells beautiful products. Mixed together though she has a stunning Instagram that I just love and take great inspiration from!
Kat Got The Cream is another favourite. This mother is a beautiful photographer but also so stylish in her mama chic looks. Her day to day snaps of her life on Instagram are so effortlessly cool and her blog is just beautiful.
What are your most coveted pieces from Laura Ashley?
It’s hard to say. More recently I love my ‘Wish’ light (still available in store!) which will be a huge feature for years to come. When Rob and I first married I bought a sign which said HOME SWEET HOME on it but unfortunately I knocked it off its nail recently and it bounced down the stairs and broke. It was one of our first home decorations I bought! I also have loved my mirrored hanging decorations that say ‘Sweet Dreams’ and even silly little things like our summer lollipop makers are Laura Ashley ones! All little pieces that make up our home and will continue to be in our home for years to come!
A big thank you to Emily for taking the time to answer our questions. We highly recommend Brick, Dust and Glitter so we insist you have a look for yourself! And while you’re there, make sure you look at their Instagram page, too – so many pretty pictures!
