Why not transform your bedroom into a scandi-inspired haven? read more
With spring around the corner there’s never been a better time to update areas of your home. I’m sure we all have that room that we know could do with a little upgrade but have been putting it off until now for whatever reason. For the lovely Anna from Blossoming Birds her little ones had now reached an age where she felt safe to update her bedroom and bring a little scandi grown-upness to is without worrying about things being destroyed so join her as she gives us a little tour of her updated space…
Our bedroom needed life breathed into it, with 2 little girls under the age of 4 the past few years our bedroom has been the home of moses baskets and cots, the carpet has had more traffic than at times would be desired (1am, 1:39am, 2am etc), there’s been all types and kinds of spills and the room has gradually got very tired looking, it was the baggy eyes of the house but one that brought most comfort (I could relate to it in many ways).
After Christmas felt like the perfect time to take on a little project and refresh the room in time for spring and to give it the love it deserved.
We really have to work for the light in our house so we wanted to keep to whites and greys but add texture, woods and metals for interest.
I love having fun with decor, I am loving the coppers and brass accessories at the minute and clashing them too as life is too short to be all matching! If you like it, get it! That’s the motto and one that my husband doesn’t entirely agree with.
I had the pleasure of picking some things from Laura Ashley to complement and accessorise the room and also to add a touch of colour.
From the Laura Ashley home range I choose the white Lucie cotton duvet cover and pillow cases as it has a beautiful delicate embroidery detail that works perfectly to add a little subtle detail into the bedding, it also means you are never tied to colours and can update with different cushions etc too.
To add some colour and softness I went for a blush blanket, this is perfect for the bottom of the bed or hung over something like a chair, bench or ladder in the room. Our bedroom will be the room that brings most comfort for the days that little girls aren’t feeling too great or the days that you just want to lie in your mummy’s bed and watch cartoons so having a lovely soft blanket on hand is a must for us to get cosy and relax.
My mum is amazing at knitting beautiful blankets and they always take pride of place, I love layering the different colours and textures, it’s a great way of adding what seems like pattern and colour into a room that could look extremely minimal and helps to ensure it doesn’t look cold.I choose a brass jewellery box that has a mirrored bottom and lovely little trinket trays to continue with the metals and industrial feel. I love seeing the jewellery displayed and it turns your own pretty jewellery into a focus in itself!
The brass metal hexagon mirror hung on the wall helps to add more light into the room and by having a few mirrors it gives the illusion of space, I also love the different shapes and interest the accessories have added to the room.
The wicker basket keeps to the Scandinavian style and also adds another kind of texture to the room, it would be perfect next to the dressing table with some cosmetics etc in it but I used it to hold a plant and prop a little sign against it for some decoration. am really happy with how we have updated our bedroom, we didn’t need to paint it but it’s like a new room.
I love the quirky feel to the room and am looking forward to slow Sunday mornings with coffee and if two little girls are anything to do with it there will no doubt be lots of crumbs and messy sheets and for me, that’s when it’s really perfect!
We think Anna’s room looks fab and love how she’s styled the Laura Ashley accessories. Is your bedroom due a makeover? Let us know below or on Twitter @LauraAshleyUK
