PREVIEW: LAURA ASHLEY No.1 FRAGRANCE

We re-launch our nostalgic scent Laura Ashley No1

Our die hard Laura Ashley fanatics will recognise our No.1 fragrance from the early 80’s, originally designed for Laura Ashley herself to complement the floral prints and delicate geo designs of the era. Still to this day we have a giant store replica of the bottle taking pride of place in our London archive, honouring what was undoubtedly one of our most sentimental scents to date.

Original No1 pieces from the archive – still in their original packaging. Below is the original giant VM bottle we had instore in the 80’s.

Taking inspiration from the beloved 80’s original (we still receive tweets today from women who adored the fragrance) it has been reinvented for 2012 by prolific perfumer Azzi Glasser (the carefully trained nose behind an accolade of scents- Nicole Fahri and Jasper Conran just to name drop a few!). For today’s interpretation Azzi has used the finest ingredients to create an evocative scent with top notes of cassis, victorian plum, violet leaves, marshmallow and green water stem. Heart notes of wild bluebell, purple rose, white gardenia and chamomile provide a beautiful floral aroma, whilst base notes of sandalwood, patchouli oil and creamy musk, complement the blend perfectly.

Do you remember the original Laura Ashley No.1? Does it evoke any memories for you? We’d love to read your stories below or simply tweet us @LauraAshleyUK

Laura Ashley No.1 will be available instore and online next week. Prices starting from £25 for 30ml and £35 for 60ml.

Can those in US purchase it? Will be available to US before Christmas? (This would be a great surprise to my wife!)

Today I have received two bottles of this wonderful perfume No. 1. It is so nice to smell it again! Thank you for relaunching it. It is very similar to the one from the 90’s. Well done!

This is one of my most favourite perfumes and what I wore when I fell in love with my husband 30 years ago. I am so glad it is coming back!

This is a very special perfume to me and what I wore when I fell in love with my husband 30 years ago. I am so glad it is coming back!

Laura Ashley No.1 is my favorite perfume of all time and I am so glad it is coming back! I just found it at the Laura Ashley store in Limerick Ireland and bought 2 bottles to bring home to the States. My husband LOVES it!! I have found my signature scent and love it even more than the original. Can we find it here in the United States? Thank you so much for bringing this beautiful, unforgettable scent back!

Can you tell me when and where we can find LA No1 in the states? I still have my empty bottles from the 80s.

Oooh! When can we purchase it in the USA? That perfume brings memories of tea time , first time I had clotted cream, my visit to stratford upon Avon , and wearing my red velvet Laura Ashley dress.

I bought some of this because I loved the original. Unfortunately it smells nothing like the original!

Hi Sophie, the updated Laura Ashley No is based on the key notes from the original but not exactly the same. We’ve had some great feedback from our customers and press so disappointed to hear you aren’t so keen. We really appreciate any feedback though so will be passing this on to our buying team. Kind Regards, Laura Ashley

This was my first perfume as a young teenage girl! I loved it! It’s still one of my most favorite scents of all time! Hope to try the new one soon!

I absolutely loved this perfume in the ’80’s – so glad it’s back! Hoping it smells the same. Any chance of No.2 as well???

Yesterday I got a sample of No. 1. I was so disappointed because it had nothing in common with the original No. 1. It smells like a cheap no name.

I, too, was a big fan of Emma, and now my daughter is asking for it! Please do let us know if you will re-release that classic!

Hi Mara, sorry to hear you were disappointed with Laura Ashley No1. It is based on the key notes from the original but has been updated for today with a modern twist and will therefore have a different aroma to the original. Kind Regards, Laura Ashley

I loved the original fragrance of no. 1. Wore it at my wedding and my husband had bought the beautiful glass bottle with glass stopper. I still have all the old bottles! The fragrance remi ds me of my teens and early twenties and of course my honeymoon! New fragrance is nice- but not as nice as the original. If so many people love it – why can’t the original be brought out again?

Hello, which of all your products are not tested on animals nor have any ingredients that have been tested on animals please?

Is there any chance of you re-launching “Emma”. I have so many happy memories of it! I have tried to get hold of an old bottle on eBay, but the last bottle was sole at auction today for in excess of £200!! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Laura-Ashley-Emma-Perfume-/151020103878?ViewItem=&ssPageName=ADME%3AB%3AEOIBUAA%3AGB%3A3160&item=151020103878&nma=true&si=QDFnNR9JpYIwkb20%252FRDn2wlLelw%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557#ht_177wt_1170
Please bring back Emma!

Please, please bring back Emma, there is a huge demand for this beautiful perfume. It has been my all time favourite perfume. Please bring it back xxx

PLEASE bring back Dilys!!! Even if just in a miniature bottle. I love this fragrance and was devastated when it was discontinued.

Hello. I am so thrilled to know you are bringing back No. 1 and Emma, and I would like to see No.2 in future. I discovered these fragrances when I was living in Heidelberg, Germany, from 1977 to 1983. My dear late husband Ron and I would take our rakish little red VW bus across the Channel on the ferry and spend two to three weeks at a time exploring England using ordnance survey maps, the tinier the road, the better. We sometimes stayed in Inns (The Swann in Lavenham was a standout memory) and sometimes camped rough in farmer’s fields, with permission. It was a great way to travel. We used the old AA “No Through Road” guide to take short circular walks that explored a theme–sea birds on the White Cliffs, sheep and hog breeds in the Borders, lichens and moss at Ladore Falls, etc. I wore the wonderful Laura Ashley 1 all the time, but it became a bit of a joke on our hikes. The floral perfume naturally attracted bees and other flying beasts that love flowers. I would try to remember not to wear the scent on days we were going hiking but I often forgot. Ron would laugh and spend the day swatting flying things from around me. Ron was killed in an accident in the Netherlands in 1984, so our plans to move back to Europe were lost with him. Bringing back the scent of those happy years with my husband will bring back the best memories of the love of my life. Thank you.

Hi Martha, thank you so much for sharing this touching story with us. We love hearing all the fond memories of the original No1 fragrance. The new updated version is different to the original but based on the original key notes. It is a beautiful scent. Laura Ashley x

I purchased a Laura Ashley lotion called Celadon in the 1990″s. It had the most refreshing citrus-like fragrance. I have not been able to find it since. Has anyone ever heard of it or know if it is still available?

I have one original Bottle of No:1 Parfume from 80,
Love it, I hope to know your company more.
I have some Memorys of it earlier than 80, didnt the company start end of 70:s…?

Happy to see the product.

Best regards

OMG, I can not tell you how happy I am to see that Emma is back. The year you stopped selling it, my friends and family went out and purchased twenty bottles for me. I only wore it on very special occasions. My last very special occasion was my wedding day June 1, 1980. Thank you, very much for returning a wonderful scent to us. Since, I now have a meager corner in my last bottle, this is perfect timing……Thank you to the person or persons in command at Laura Ashley……..

I have been wanting to get my hands on L.A. No.1 FOREVER!!! Where can I get the new version? And why did laura Ashley stop making these top selling perfumes? I just have never understood this. Also, why not make the original scent? The original scent is what we crave! Not an updated version. Please respond.
Thank you, Tess
