Create a cosy + unique camera strap with our how-to from blogger Brittany.. read more
Whether you fancy yourself as a budding photographer or perhaps you just love capturing life’s special moments, we’ve got the perfect DIY project lined up for you and your camera. Why not stand out from the crowd and personalise your camera by fashioning a stylish strap from your favourite scarf? We invited the creative Brittany, blogger at The House That Lars Built to show us how..
I love taking something like a scarf and using it in a completely different way, like a camera strap! The floral scarf strap is the perfect accessory for any photographer, from amateur to professional, especially if you need something cosy at your neck – it’s SO soft.
You will need:
– Scarf
– Split rings
– Chain closure
– Scissors
– Sewing machine OR needle and thread
– Scrap of leather
– Pen
How -to:
1) Draw your shape on the leather with a pen making sure the smallest point at the fold fits through the split ring. You’ll be folding it over, so mirror one side to the other and trace it.
2) Cut the leather on the folded line.
3) Repeat to create two of these leather pieces.
4) Connect the chain closure to the split ring.
5) Slide the ring to the middle section of the leather.
6) Fold the end of the scarf in an accordion fold, small enough so that it fits into the leather.
7) Stick the leather to the scarf in place.
8) With your sewing machine, stitch around the edge of the leather (as indicated in the picture). Make sure you have a special needle that works for leather. Otherwise, hand stitch it.
This DIY project combines two of my favourite things: a lovely ditsy floral scarf and taking pictures!
