The Sun’s shining here in London, which means it’s officially time to re-evaluate our wardrobes. Stepping away from the dull greys and safe black, we’re embracing bright colours and pastel hues to add a Spring in our step. Not sure where to start? Us neither, which is why we invited some of our favourite fashionista bloggers to show us how to embrace one of our favourite trends of the season, pastels. From trousers to tops, Tara, Amanda, and Deborah show you how to effortlessly incorporate this pretty trend into your Summer wardrobe…
The Pastel Trousers: Tara from The Style Rawr
One of my favourite recurring Spring/Summer trends is pastels. Pretty pinks, pale blues and soft lemon shades are feminine and flattering on almost all skin tones, including my fair complexion. I was asked by Laura Ashley to style a pastel item, so I opted for these pink wide leg trousers. Wide leg trousers are a must‑have for this season, they are comfortable and a great statement piece!
For my first look, I wanted to create simple but chic outfit using wardrobe basics. I paired my trousers with a breton crop, camel fedora and some white block heel sandals. Breton tops are perfect for Spring/Summer and work wonderfully with pastels. To me this outfit is effortless but it still looks on trend. It would be ideal for wearing to lunch with friends.
I love a good co‑ord so couldn’t resist wearing this matching soft duster jacket for my second look. I added a grey top, gold sandals and a statement pop of colour thanks to this turquoise slice necklace. This is a slightly smarter look and would be something I’d wear to work. Adding a neutral colour to pastels is always a good idea, I would be tempted to lighten it even more by switching my top for a cream camisole…Deliciously Spring-alicious!
For my final outfit, I wanted to create a slight 70’s vibe by putting my wide leg trousers with a denim shirt. I added a teal fedora for a splash of colour and my favourite silver brogues. I really like the idea of mixing brights with pastels. Overall, this look is probably my favourite, It’s very casual and wearable. Let it be known, denim and pastels are best friends!
The Pastel Skirt: Amanda from Rhyme & Ribbons
I have an unabashed love for pastels. I start wearing them in full force as soon as the daylight starts lingering a tiny bit past 4 pm. I wore this gorgeous new floral pencil skirt on an outing to Columbia Road flower market. It was a warm day, and I felt so seasonal – it was perfection! I have a very short torso and sometimes high-waisted clothing can make me look really disproportional. To combat this, I paired the skirt with a grey crop top. I added a necklace and watch that picked up colours in the skirt and my trusty, super-comfortable ballet flats.
This skirt made me feel glamorous and very grown up! I think it’s a great way to add a touch of sophistication to your wardrobe.
The Pastel Shirt: Deborah from Bang on Style
I’ll be honest I’ve always been a bit of pastel-phobe, so I don’t know if it’s thanks to my new lighter hair or having just that hint of a tan from my recent holiday but I’m starting to experiment with some pastels in my wardrobe, especially pink! This candy striped shirt from Laura Ashley is the perfect pastel piece in my book. Striped shirts are huge at the moment and this one has a beautiful relaxed fit and pretty embroidered detail on the reverse plus it’s a lovely shade.
It’s a good entry into wearing pastels for me as it’s not a solid colour, and I’ve teamed it with white jeans which are another big trend for Summer. I think they help create a soft Summery look and make the pink of the shirt and the gorgeous tote bag really pop. This tote has been coming everywhere with me. It’s a vibrant shade of pink with grey panelling and it’s so huge inside that i can easily fit everything that i need for work. So practical and pretty!
I love this whole look and I think it’s definitely converted me to being a bit braver to wear pastels. Maybe even head to toe one day!
