With space at a premium in many of today’s homes, we all need as much help as we can get when it comes to making the most of what we have. And, if you’re anything like me, you’ll want to make sure that the furniture you choose is stylish as well as functional- especially if you have a small space to work with.
Keep clutter at bay
Water Hyacinth Paper Storage File
Make sure clutter stays to a minimum by investing in some attractive storage solutions for everyday essentials. This lovely water hyacinth design is the perfect size to store magazines, and will also add texture by introducing a natural material. A matching fanned magazine holder and storage baskets are also available for a co-ordinated look.
Choose flexible furniture
I love Laura Ashley’s Milton range of versatile modular furniture. With a gorgeous oak finish, it would work beautifully with most schemes, and is practical for any room in the house. Build a configuration to suit your storage needs exactly, choosing from a number of units with doors, drawers and shelves, so that you can hide away clutter as well as displaying treasured items.
Opt for a corner desk
New One Door Cupboard Desk / New Corner Desk / Three Drawer Desk Unit / Franklin Office Chair
If you only have a small area to use as a home office, a corner desk is an ideal space-saving solution. Laura Ashley’s Garrat Modular desk is available in three stunning finishes – dark chestnut (shown here), honey and oiled oak, and it’s a modular system, so again you can choose one of each or two of the same pedestal units on either side. Position in under a window wherever possible to make the most of natural light, and invest in a comfortable chair to make doing the paperwork a pleasure rather than a chore.
Consider a pull-out guest bed
Camberwell Hideaway Bed & Headboard
If you often have visitors to stay but don’t have the space for a double bed, consider this handy design. The Camberwell bed comes complete with a hideaway bed underneath, providing double the sleeping area, while only taking up the floor space of a single bed. Dress it with some beautiful bed linen for a guest room to be proud of.
