Claire our Home Decorating Assistant Buyer is constantly sourcing inspiration in her surroundings and the inspirational places she visits, including her beautiful seaside home of Brighton. Take a sneaky look below at her week in pictures…

MY FLAT

Here are some weekend snaps from my flat in Brighton. I’ve always had a thing for vintage furniture and accessories and even as a little girl was collecting treasures from jumble sales. My friends say I have an ‘eye’ for making all my retro items work together, and of course I like to combine old with new by adding some lovely Laura Ashley pieces.

BESIDE THE SEA WALLPAPER

We were asked to provide images for a new wallpaper of seaside photos from years gone by and I was thrilled when the picture of me, my brother and a little friend as children made it onto the final design! Friends and family are all clamouring for rolls of it and it’s nice (although a little bizarre) to think I’m on walls across the country!

BEACH BARBEQUE

I’m so lucky to live by the sea and take every opportunity I can to get down to the beach (rain or shine) to meet friends for walks or barbeques, or cycle along the seafront. Luckily this evening was beautiful. I also love the myriad of quirky interiors and antique shops/markets in the North Lanes area of Brighton in which I always find inspiration for my range of Decorative Accessories…

I took along some of my Laura Ashley accessories: Amelie giant seat pad and Celebrate Britain Cushion

Sydney Street in Brighton is my favourite street for shopping

I came across these vintage earrings in the jewellery market- inspiration for unique door handles perhaps? Sometimes you can find inspiration in the most unexpected places.

STYLIST MAGAZINE + COFFEE

Stylist mag and coffee – Stylist magazine (free on a Wednesdays at train stations) always gets me through my commute along with my fresh coffee thermos…

AT WORK

As much as my job is about strategies, forecasts and building a balanced range it is also very hands on. Every new product gets trialled here at the office or at home to make sure it is suitable for use. Luckily I am very practical and quite handy with DIY so I love this part of the job, taking things apart and seeing how they work and how to improve them for customers…

Couldn’t live without my handy box of tools!

LONDON TOWN

We always like to take advantage of being in London to keep up with emerging trends by visiting quirky places such as the East End, Portobello Road and Islington, as well as the more obvious stores in the West End…

We walked past the window of Ottolenghi on Upper Street (Islington)- the cakes always look divine!

OLYMPIC MEN’S ROAD RACE CYCLING

I went with a group of friends to see this near Box Hill in Surrey. It was great to see so many people with flags, banners, anything featuring a Union Jack cheering on Team GB! They went by so fast and so close! I have great admiration for the cyclists having done the London to Brighton bike ride a couple of years ago…
