Casual Country House Style

By Claire Dorey- Assistant Editor in Design at Country Homes & Interiors magazine

Both Laura Ashley and Country Homes & Interiors are championing the country house look, inspired by country homes and gardens, this spring. Its a timeless, classic look of genteel glamour and very suited to these uncertain times when you want to come home to your haven and close the doors to the world outside. New colours and glass accessories update the look giving it a fresh, modern take on this popular style…

We love Laura Ashley’s Shades of Blue collection- it fits so beautifully with the trend for decorating in a casual country house style, as seen in the March issue of Country Homes & Interiors magazine, Spring trend feature (below). The look is all about understated, subtle glamour in muted tones of duck egg, aqua and cornflower blue. Choose classic furniture styles, which won’t date, with tall French mirrors and crystal chandeliers to make the room feel airy and filled with light. Flank the windows with floor length curtains to increase the effect of the height of the room. This look becomes affordable and achievable with the help of Laura Ashley.

It’s all in the detail. All home decorators love to add the final touches to a room. The accessories complete a decorating scheme and make it feel like home. Laura Ashley offer a wonderful range of home accessories such as picture frames, vases and ornament. Then it’s all about how you feel in the room and it’s atmosphere. Fresh flowers, such as roses from the cutting garden make a room feel fresh and pure. Extra sensory touches can be added with fragrant, scented candles in linen and jasmine.

The casual country house look suits a bedroom beautifully. Recreate the charm and comfort of a country boutique hotel with layers of satiny quilts and linens, piles of pillows and scatter cushions and co-ordinate with floor length curtains and wallpapers. Stick to a serene aqua and cream palette for a fresh feel and opt for a white painted metal bed to lift the room and to stop it from being too imposing.
